Thanks to all

Thanks to everyone who came out, I was super excited to see so many people stopped through. This whole show was pretty organic since we had only three weeks to put everything together, but things fell into place nicely. Anthony Zollo wasn’t even sure if he was going to participate, and I was lucky to have Red Labor involved, everyone came through with great stuff. Brandon Dunlap is today on the road to move to New York, and he came through two rad pieces in the midst of a large decision, I appreciate that for sure.

Outlook Artist - Brandon Mclean

posted by: Tony Krol

I personally didn’t know a whole lot about Brandon as an artist until I really started communicating with him through the show. What I personally dig about his work, is that he uses art not as a means to express any particular skill, such as strictly painting, or sketching, but he uses art to question and examine this world and how his life fits into it, which to me specs the core reason behind creativity in general.

I like the article, it defines art and the artist eloquently.

Reax Space

posted by: Tony Krol

In addition to the work being purchased through the event, and right at Cafe Hey for the duration of the show, there is also work available at Reax Space, which is a boutique in Ybor City (1911 N. 19th Street) that carries independent artists’ clothing, books, and artwork. Drop by there to check out some of the latest stuff from Dementa (By Raven Reda) and Hugsmugglers.

Florida Night Heat and DJ Op One

posted by: Tony Krol

I went into Cafe Hey to grab some wall dimensions, and chat with Anne, Chris (Dj Mes of Crate Bro.), and Jensen (of Cosmic Bakalava) about some sounds for the show, and here is what we have lined up for sure. Dj Op One will be spinning a dope set in the main room where the art is, while Florida Night Heat (consisting of Chris and Jensen) will be in the side room. Later in the night, we are throwing around the idea of gathering more Dj’s with their crates of records, as well as inviting people who may play the bass, or guitar, and MC’s to jam out to an off-the-cuff session. This may get pretty rad.

Outlook Art Show, August 1st 2009

posted by: Tony Krol

Cafe’s are conversational, and perceptual; ideas fly around them, and people are in and out. Using a public independent business to showcase local independent artists, the Outlook Art show is an event which will hopefully broaden the outlook of the community to its local artists. Most of the artists in the show have been active in the community in their creative efforts for a long time, so the show will just re-engage the community to their new work, and hopefully by using a public business, engage new people to learn a bit more about the artists involved as well.
